The season opens on the first Saturday of next month
The season opens on the first Saturday of next month, as it has since long before anyone currently on the committee joined. Boats go out at seven for those who want the flat water, and the rest of the morning is deliberately unstructured.
Breakfast is in the loft from nine. It is the one morning of the year when the club feeds everybody, and the one morning when the loft is warm enough to sit in without a jacket.
If you have never been in a boat
The afternoon is for you. Novice outings run from one o'clock in fours with a coach in each boat, and there is no need to book anything or bring anything beyond shoes you do not mind getting wet.
- 07:00 — first outings, experienced crews
- 09:00 — breakfast in the loft
- 13:00 — novice outings, no booking needed
- 16:00 — boats away, and the bar opens
Nobody has ever regretted turning up to the first Saturday. Several people have regretted missing it.
