The eight is back from the boatyard

It came back on Thursday, after five months away with a cracked rib and a soft patch under bow seat. The stern canvas had been repaired twice already and has now been replaced outright, and the boatyard's verdict is that the boat has another ten years in it.

The repair cost slightly more than the estimate, which is what everybody expects and nobody budgets for. It is still a fraction of what a replacement would have been, and the hull is the part that was never in doubt.

Before it goes out

  • New wiring for the cox box, done in-house
  • Riggers checked and re-torqued
  • Shoes replaced in three seats
  • It stays on the top rack — no exceptions

First outing is Sunday morning with the senior squad, and the boat book entry for it now has a note asking people to carry it with nine, not eight.
