Off-season maintenance: what to expect in the shed
Four boats come off the water this month and stay off for the next two. That is more than usual, and it is deliberate: doing the work properly once is cheaper than doing it badly at the start of every season, which is the pattern we have been in for three years.
The racks are being rearranged at the same time. Singles move to the far wall, the eights stay where they are, and the bottom bay is cleared entirely so the trailer can come inside.
Working parties
- Every Saturday, ten until one, for the next eight weeks
- Bring gloves; everything else is here
- No experience needed for sanding, some needed for rigging
- Coffee at eleven, and lunch on the last Saturday of the month
Two hours from thirty people is the whole job. Six hours from five people is most Saturdays, and it is why the work runs a month longer than it should.
