Masters take the double at the national championships
The coxed four went first and won by a length and a half. The quad, three of whom had just rowed the four, went ninety minutes later and won by rather less than that, which is the more impressive of the two results.
The squad has trained at six in the morning, four days a week, since the end of last season. That is not a heroic schedule so much as a practical one — it is the only hour of the day when the water is flat and nobody has to be anywhere else.
We are not quick. We are just extremely used to being uncomfortable.
Both boats go to the international masters regatta at the end of the season. The six o'clock outings continue, and the coaches say there is room in them.
